The Internet Public Library has links to some of the best Websites for student research. A group of librarians evaluate the Websites, so you can be sure they are valid sources. The best way to use it is to find a subject area related to your search and browse the list of sites to see if any fit with your topic.

This Website has primary source documents and images related to American History. Subjects include: immigration, women’s history, environment, advertising, and maps -- to name just a few.

This US government Website has maps and information about almost every country on the planet. Subjects include: people, geography, government, communication, economy, transportation and more.

This website offers fairly current information on 101 countries.

Go to “Manage” and use a keyword, title, or author search. Click on the title to get more information, for example look under Dewey Decimal to find out the number of a nonfiction book.

  The San Francisco Public Library

www.sfpl.org

You don’t need a password to use the catalogue. A library card number and a four letter password lets you reserve books and have them delivered to your local library at no charge.

The databases are excellent resources for student research. You need a library card number to use the databases. Anyone who lives in California can get a SFPL card. Click on “articles and databases” under the catalogue search box on the SFPL home page. You will get a long list of the databases available. Student Resources are down at the bottom. Encyclopedias are in the middle. Newspapers are near the top of the list. These are some of the most useful databases:
